Planning to get dreadlocks?

If you’re planning to start your loc journey, let me begin by encouraging you!

When I started my journey a few years ago, I didn’t have a clue what I was getting myself into. I spent months looking for answers on the internet and for the things I couldn’t find, I learned by trial and error.

The good news is that over the course of the past few years, I learned A LOT! I created this site to share with you everything that I know.

If I can save you time, energy, and help you along the way, then I have fulfilled my purpose here. If you’re still left with questions, I’m only an email away! Reach out to me anytime by using the contact form at the bottom of this page.

I’m considering getting dreads. What should I know?

  • Are dreadlocks dirty? They are if you don’t take care of them. But that should no longer be an issue of concern now that you’ve discovered DreadlocKulture.com! After you follow the tips on this site, your locs are going to be cleaner and healthier than ever!
  • Are dreadlocks permanent? They’re not. There are different ways to get rid of locs, and luckily, shaving them off is not the only option.
  • Do dreadlocks hurt? Loc installation and maintenance can be painful, as well as the weight they put on your neck. Learn how you can prevent dreadlock-related pain.
  • Do dreads smell bad? This can depend on how you take care of your locs. If you follow the tips on this site, you can rest assured that your locs are going to smell amazing!
  • How fast do dreads grow? Locs grow at the same rate as loose hair does, but it may appear that they’re growing faster. Learn why!
  • Am I going to get bullied for having locs? You may or may not. In my experience, I have only gotten positive feedback in person and 99% positive feedback online. There’s always that 1% who leave me negative comments on my website, but it doesn’t phase me. If you’re worried about cultural appropriation, you’ll be relieved to learn that locs are not linked to any specific culture so you’re in the clear. You can learn about the meaning of dreadlocks here – I’ve done all the research for you.
