Hi, I’m Nadia!

nadia zbyszycki

I am the founder and sole writer for DreadlocKulture.com. I started this website in 2019 to help newbie dread heads learn the ins and outs of loc care and maintenance.

When I started my loc journey seven years ago, I realized quickly that there was a lot of mixed information about dreadlocks on the web. I had a ton of questions and the answers I found would oftentimes contradict each other.

As a result, I made my fair share of mistakes during the first few months of having locs.

I’m the type of person who asks a million questions as is, so this scenario was no different. I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching, reading, and educating myself on natural hair care and specifically dreadlock health.

Fast forward 7 years, I have a solid hair care routine that has proven successful.

My mission is to share everything I’ve learned with the hope that others won’t make the same mistakes I did simply because they were misinformed.

A little bit about me

I’m a laid-back girl who loves to travel and experience the world in unique ways, helping people along the way however I can.

I have a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and have worked on humanitarian projects in Costa Rica and across many U.S. states.

I shocked many people 7+ years ago when I decided to get dreadlocks (mainly because I don’t fit the stereotype at all). But, I’m not here to talk about stereotypes.

Regardless of how people associate themselves or see others with dreads, I can earnestly say it has been one of my favorite and most transforming life decisions.

I don’t think I was fully prepared for the dreadlock journey, to be honest, yet I couldn’t have started it at a better time in my life.

Many people speak of the spiritual journey they go through amid their dreadlocks becoming mature but I think my experience has been so much more than that.

My locs have helped me to find freedom in expressing myself authentically. As I watch my dreads transform, I feel I am also growing and becoming a better version of myself.

The dread journey is beautiful and unique to each person. 🙂

Why I started DreadlocKulture

I started this blog to help other beginner dread heads learn the best ways to take care of their locs, mostly by personal experience and a lot of research.

As someone who used to wash her hair every single day, becoming a loc-lady left me no other option but to adjust to a new hair care routine.

During the last seven years of my dreadlock journey, I have aimed to solely use naturally derived products, such as herbs, plants, and other ingredients found in nature.

In the process, I have learned so much! And my locs are proof that nature provides us with everything we need to have healthy hair.

In 2020, I wrote and published my second book: 39 Easy Recipes to Revitalize Your Dreadlocks: Discover the Benefits of All-Natural Ingredients (ISBN-13: ‎ 978-1667145969) which combines my research and experience into a comprehensive manual for taking care of your locs by using naturally-sourced ingredients.

My mission is to pass on the information I’ve learned thus far and I will continue to share my growing knowledge via this platform and social media.

I hope this blog encourages those who are a part of (or considering joining) the growing society of awesome dread heads.
